Generative AI Policy

Generative AI Policy

HAPDIS (Harmoni Pendidikan, Islam dan Sains) acknowledges the rapid advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and its potential to assist in academic writing. To maintain academic integrity, transparency, and accountability, HAPDIS strictly adheres to the guidelines provided by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and global indexing standards (e.g., Scopus/Elsevier) regarding the use of Generative AI and AI-assisted technologies.

1. Authorship and AI

  • AI Cannot Be an Author: Generative AI tools (such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Jasper, etc.) cannot be listed as an author or co-author of a manuscript. Authorship requires human accountability, the ability to consent to publication, and the legal capacity to hold copyright, none of which AI possesses.

2. Acceptable Use of AI Tools

  • Authors are permitted to use AI tools only to improve readability, language, and formatting of the manuscript (e.g., translation, grammar checking, or proofreading).

  • AI tools must not be used to generate core scientific ideas, draw primary conclusions, or fabricate data.

3. Transparency and Disclosure

  • If an author uses generative AI or AI-assisted technologies in the writing process, they must transparently disclose its use.

  • A dedicated section titled "Declaration of Generative AI and AI-assisted technologies in the writing process" must be added at the end of the manuscript (before the References).

  • Example of disclosure: "During the preparation of this work, the author(s) used [NAME OF TOOL] in order to [REASON/HOW IT WAS USED]. After using this tool/service, the author(s) reviewed and edited the content as needed and take(s) full responsibility for the content of the publication."

4. Author Accountability

  • The human authors bear full responsibility and accountability for the accuracy, originality, and integrity of the submitted manuscript. Authors must carefully review all AI-generated content to ensure there are no hallucinations, factual errors, or plagiarized materials.
